Trinidad schoolboy dies in knife ‘playfight’

(Trinidad Express) A 15-year secondary schoolboy of Enterprise in Chaguanas was fatally stabbed on Sunday.

Christian Lashley was stabbed in his torso while liming with a group of young men from his community.

Police were told that the encounter began as a “play fight” but ended with Lashley being stabbed with a pocketknife.

The perpetrator fled the scene and remains at large.

A police report stated that at around 5.10 p.m. officers of the Chaguanas CID received a report of wounding at the Chrissie Trace Recreation Ground in Enterprise.

PCs Williams and Karmody responded to the scene where they met a 17-year-old boy who reported that at around 4.45 p.m. he, Lashley, the perpetrator and other people were in the pavilion when he observed Lashley and the perpetrator “play fighting”.

According to the report, the witness told police that a few minutes later he saw Lashley holding the right side of his torso covering a stab wound and Lashley said, “Take me home, take me home”.

The witness said the perpetrator, who was armed with a pocketknife in his right hand, fled.

Lashley was taken to the Chaguanas District Health Facility, then later transferred to the Mount Hope Paediatric Hospital.

He died while being treated.

A post-mortem is expected to be done at the Forensic Science Centre in St James.

Detectives of the Homicide Bureau of Region III are continuing investigations.
