The smiles, evident on the faces of the Guyana players at 1pm on Saturday disappeared yesterday as the Windward Islands took control of their eighth-round West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) regional four day match at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.

First day honours in the eighth-round West Indies Cricket Board’s regional four-day competition went to Guyana who dismissed the Windward Islands for 215 and then reached 73-2 at stumps at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence yesterday.

Narsingh Deonarine’s fifth first-class century, a half century from opener Christopher Barnwell and useful scores of 40 from Assad Fudadin, 39 from Devendra Bishoo, 35 from Royston Crandon and 33 from Leon Johnson saw Guyana to their highest score this season of 402 all out.

Guyana breaks sequence of losses with draw

Led by resilient half centuries from Leon Johnson (58) and Narsingh Deonarine (51 not out), Guyana   avoided a fifth successive defeat when they held leaders Jamaica to a tame draw in their sixth round match at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence yesterday.
