Number of documented Venezuelan migrants in Guyana at 2,943

Minister of Citizenship, Winston Felix yesterday commended the efforts of the National Multi-Sectoral Coordinating Committee in managing the influx of Venezuelan migrants and a release from the Ministry of the Presidency said the number stood at 2,943.

GAWU expects gov’t to abide by ruling that remaining severance be paid with interest

President of the Guyana Agricultural and General Workers’ Union (GAWU) Komal Chand says that he has no fear that the government or Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) will not pay the interest on the remaining severance payments to laid off sugar workers, as was ordered by the High Court, despite it not being catered for in the supplementary funding that was approved by Parliament last week.

Large quantity of illegal pesticides seized on Corentyne – PTCCB

Inspection and Enforcement Officers of the Pesticides and Toxic Chemicals (Control) Board (PTCCB), in collaboration with the Guyana Police Force, on Sunday last thwarted what was described as a major smuggling operation and confiscated approximately 300 kilograms of illegal or unregistered pesticides.

Paradise electrician murdered

Police are investigating the murder of Justin Peterkin, 39, an electrician of Paradise Village, ECD allegedly by his brother-in-law, who is in custody.
