Hauraruni residents call for repairs after access road stalls firefighters

Residents of Hauraruni, on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, yesterday appealed for an intervention by the relevant authorities to fix their access road, days after a fire service truck was unable to reach the village to put out an early morning fire that nearly razed its Multi-Complex Hall.

Husband and wife found guilty of Boxing Day murder

Husband and wife Nyron Thakurdyal and Vishwantie Ragnauth, who were on trial for the murder of Patentia miner Sunil Ramsundar, were yesterday both found guilty of the crime.

Task forces proposes axing political, special interest reps from UG council

A task force set up to examine the governance structure of the University Of Guyana (UG) has recommended that the membership of the university’s governing council be severely pared down and its functions restricted to policy formation so that the Vice-Chancellor (VC) can have greater autonomy in the day-to-day running of the institution.

Police Corporal Rondell Gouveia today appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court 2 before Magistrate Zamilla Ally-Seepaul, charged with unlawful wounding, two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm, two counts of threatening language, damage to property, and disorderly behaviour committed on Candace Younge and Alisha Martin on June 5, 2018 at Sophia, to which he pleaded not guilty and was placed on a total of $140,000 bail.

Linden man gets 18 years for stabbing wife to death

Linden resident Clarence Carter, who stabbed his wife to death in an attack at Wisroc Housing Scheme and then made an unsuccessful attempt to end his own life, was yesterday sentenced to serve 18 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
