Cabinet asks AG to explain move to take private land

Cabinet yesterday took a decision to have Attorney-General Basil Williams prepare a report to explain the compulsory acquisition of  two plots of land at Carmichael and Middle streets belonging to High Commissioner to Canada Clarissa Riehl and the Beharry Group of Companies, while the latter is preparing a legal challenge.

Shot robbery victim succumbs

A Charlestown man yesterday morning succumbed to a gunshot wound, just over a week after he was shot during a robbery in front of Dynasty Sports Club, on Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt.

UG student hit by car regains consciousness

Keneisha Sim, the third-year Biology student of the University of Guyana who was struck down by a speeding car on Monday as she attempted to cross the East Coast Demerara public road, has regained consciousness and her condition is listed as stable.

Two new city councillors sworn-in

There are two new faces on the Georgetown City Council. Selwyn Smartt, of Team Benschop for Mayor and Khame Prakash Sharma, of the People’s Progressive Party/Civic, recently took the oath of office and joined 28 other individuals representing the residents of Georgetown on the council.
