A man is now dead after he was brutally stabbed by another during an altercation over food which occurred in the wee hours of yesterday morning in John Street, Werk-en-Rust.

About 0445h. today, the police say that Vanisha Shrikissoon, 30 years, of Rosehall, Corentyne, and four other persons who were engaged in the plucking of chicken were held at gunpoint by three men armed with firearms who had entered the home.

About 1500h. yesterday, the police say that Nafasie Edghill, 39 years, of Castello Housing Scheme, Georgetown, was at Mon Repos, ECD, when he became involved in a playful scuffle with a friend, who is a licensed firearm holder and had the firearm in his hand at the time, when a round is reported to have been accidentally discharged.

Investigations are being conducted into the circumstances surrounding the death of Gordon Ross, 26 years, who was found on John Street, Georgetown, with stab wounds about his body about 0140h.

Existing broadcasters will have to reapply, GNBA says

There are currently 44 new applications for television, radio and cable licences according to Guyana National Broadcasting Authority (GNBA) Chairman Leonard Craig who announced yesterday that existing broadcasters will have to reapply for a 2016 licence and a decision is still to be made on controversial licences handed out by the Jagdeo administration in 2011.

Broadcasting body proposing lower fees for TV operators

The Guyana National Broadcasting Authority (GNBA) has recommended a new fee structure which will see a steep cut in the rate for television broadcasters and it is looking at all available options to recover $121M in licensing fees from delinquent operators.
