Armed robbery accused remanded

A Goedverwating man was yesterday charged and remanded over a gun-point robbery, while the man to whom he allegedly sold the stolen items was also charged and released on bail.

Fort Ordnance Primary to be retrofitted to serve as emergency shelter

Canada is to finance the retrofitting of the Fort Ordnance Primary School to the tune of $15m so that it can serve as an emergency shelter for flood-affected residents.

Guyoil, energy agency probe report due in May

Minister of State, Joseph Harmon on Monday met with the members of the Board of Inquiry, which was mandated to investigate allegations of mismanagement and wrongdoing at the Guyana Oil Company (Guyoil) and Guyana Energy Agency (GEA). 

Tiwarie says was advisor to Harmon, not gov’t

Businessman Brian Tiwarie yesterday said he had been appointed as a personal advisor to Minister of State Joseph Harmon and not to the government, and while claiming that he was the subject of a political vendetta he criticised President David Granger for acting “impulsively” in rescinding the appointment.

Facing concern by coalition partner AFC over the extensive powers of Minister of State Joseph Harmon, President David Granger last evening defended his APNU colleague, saying his duties are not “burdensome” and no objections had been raised before.
