Brazil Senate puts Rousseff on trial, ending 13 years of leftist rule

BRASILIA, (Reuters) – Brazil’s Senate voted today to put leftist President Dilma Rousseff on trial in a historic decision brought on by a deep recession and a corruption scandal that will now confront her successor, Vice President Michel Temer.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) yesterday urged government to strengthen the anti-money laundering framework saying that remaining        deficiencies heighten Guyana’s vulnerability to international banks culling banking relationships.

Fire razes Agricola house

An early morning fire, suspected to have been set by an occupant who is mentally unstable, gutted an Agricola, East Bank Demerara (EBD) house yesterday and the man was later arrested after he fled the scene.

Injured firemen recount harrowing Gafoor’s blaze

Jubilee coins, $50 note launched

Commemorative $5,000 and $2,000 coins and a $50 bank note were yesterday launched at the Bank of Guyana (BOG) as part of the 5oth Independence Anniversary celebrations, GINA said.
