At about 0430h. today, police say that Ayana Henry, 28 years, of Laing Avenue, Georgetown, was involved in an argument with a man at Lime and Hadfield Streets, Georgetown, during which she was shot to her left thigh.

Rescued trafficking victims vanish from state facility

Five females, who were last week removed by the police from the Mahdia backdam where they were allegedly being held against their will, vanished from a safe house on Sunday, Minister of Human Services and Social Security Jennifer Webster confirmed yesterday and an investigation has been launched.

Opposition wants full disclosure on billion-dollar contractors

The parliamentary opposition is seeking full disclosure of all local contractors who have been awarded billion-dollar government contracts, amid concerns that the administration’s bid to retain a role in the granting of awards is motivated by a desire to ensure its friends are beneficiaries.

Heart disease at ‘alarming’ percentage among population

With Guyana is seeing an “alarming” percentage of heart disease, especially among young people, four local doctors are hoping to use the knowledge they have gained from a just-concluded echocardiography programme to both help patients and raise awareness among the wider population about heart ailments.

Digitisation of archives underway

The digitisation of the Walter Rodney Archives has commenced with trained archivists utilising the recently revamped digital camera and scanning tray, under a $10 million project funded jointly by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and UNESCO, with $5.2 million going directly to equipment upgrades.
