Gov’t, teachers reach deal on wages

After six hours of negotiation, the Ministry of Education (MoE) and the Guyana Teachers’ Union (GTU) yesterday struck a deal on salary increases for teachers for the period 2016 to 2018, with union reps accepting an across-the-board increase of 8% for this year.

Guyana, Canadian province signing oil and gas pact

The Guyana government and the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador will be signing a technical cooperation agreement on oil and gas in the coming week, when Georgetown will also be hosting a visit by a 50-odd member trade mission from the territory seeking partnerships with local companies to tap the sector.

Restored ‘Dutch Collection’ returned to Guyana

Restored and digitised archival materials with, information spanning two centuries and dating back to the 17th century when Guyana became a Dutch colony, were yesterday handed over by the National Archives of the Netherlands to its local counterpart.

AFC not contesting some areas in local polls

Alliance for Change (AFC) campaign manager David Patterson has clarified that the party has clarified that his party is not contesting some constituencies at the upcoming Local Government Elections (LGEs) because it did not submit the names of candidates one time.

Following the discovery of expired goods and tampered expiry dates on condensed milk products at an East Coast Supermarket, the Government Analyst–Food and Drug Department (GA-FDD) yesterday urged the consuming public to be vigilant.
