Ex NY State Senator jailed for five years, way paved for Ed Ahmad sentencing

Former New York state Senate leader, John Sampson was sentenced to five years in prison yesterday for lying and obstructing justice to cover up his misuse of escrow money in a case where a key witness against him was US-based Guyanese businessman, Ed Ahmad.

Two-year plan to combat human trafficking launched

Seeking to correct what it said were major failings on the part of the previous administration, government yesterday launched a two-year Plan of Action to combat Trafficking in Persons (TIP) even as President David Granger underscored the importance of enforcing the laws to ensure that traffickers are successfully prosecuted and the vulnerable protected.

$4M bribery accused granted $1.5M bail each

  Sharmila Inderjali and Maryanne Lionel, the two women who allegedly offered a police officer $4 million in cash to release the accused in the murder of Number 70 Village carpenter Faiyaz Narinedatt, were yesterday each granted $1.5 million bail by a city Magistrate.
