Guyana pressing for solid Caricom backing over Caracas decree

Amid signs that Venezuela is trying to limit condemnation from Caricom on its May maritime decree that targeted huge swathes of Guyana’s Atlantic waters, President David Granger and Foreign Minister Carl Greenidge yesterday ramped up pressure on the regional body to take a strong stance while pointing out the threat to the wider community.

Cop for training on state assets recovery

As government continues to put measures in place to get its State Assets Recovery Unit (SARU) up and running, Guyana will be sending a representative to Rome, Italy for an 11-day training programme dealing specifically with this issue, Minister of State Joseph Harmon said yesterday.

Five fingered in GuyOil free gas scam will have chance to pay

Five persons have been identified as having fraudulently accessed fuel from the Guyana Oil Company (GuyOil) through an arrangement set up by the former administration and Minister of State Joseph Harmon said they would be asked to pay for the fuel even as investigations continue into the racket which has ensnared three government ministries.

Parliament looking at late recess

Minister of State Joseph Harmon said yesterday that the work of the National Assembly will continue into the scheduled recess period as there is much to be completed, particularly the presenting of the national budget.
