Rains return to flooded southern Brazil, interrupting rescues

PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil,  (Reuters) – Authorities interrupted rescue efforts in flood-ravaged southern Brazil yesterday amid more rain and the risk of lightning and stiff winds that threaten to exacerbate a catastrophe that has already killed at least 100 people and left over 163,000 seeking shelter.

Brazil floods leave 150,000 homeless, scores dead or missing

ELDORADO DO SUL, Brazil, (Reuters) – Rescuers rushed to evacuate people stranded by devastating floods across the southern Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul yesterday, with at least 90 dead, thousands left homeless, and desperate survivors seeking food and basic supplies.
