US officials asking Qatar to allow couple to leave country

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – US officials have been in contact with Qatar’s government to ask them to allow a Los Angeles couple to return home after an appeals court threw out convictions linked to the death of their African-born adopted daughter, a State Department spokeswoman said yesterday.

Bombs, gunfire kill 81 at crowded mosque in Nigeria’s Kano

KANO, Nigeria, (Reuters) – Gunmen set off three bombs and opened fire on worshippers at the main mosque in north Nigeria’s biggest city Kano yesterday, killing at least 81 people, witnesses and officials said, in an attack that bore the hallmarks of Islamist Boko Haram militants.
