Is there a functioning sports secretariat for Region 10?

Dear Editor,   One would have thought that having won the National Schools Athletics, Track and Field, Cycling and Swimming Championships for a record 10 consecutive years, the sports authority of Linden/Region 10 would have at least tried to maintain the tempo, not only in athletics but also as much as possible in other sport disciplines.

Can we overcome ourselves?

Dear Editor,   While the St Lucia Government is waiting for the green light from the UK to delink from the Privy Council in order to join the appellate jurisdiction of the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ), former Barbados Prime Minister Owen Arthur, has blasted the governments of the countries which have not yet abolished appeals to the Privy Council.

The CPL should not promote the rum culture

Dear Editor,   On Saturday, July18, I attended the CPL match between the Amazon Warriors and the Tridents at the Providence Stadium, and I was quite shocked to see that the rum culture was being promoted amongst spectators on a grand scale.

Attitudes, not Arts

Dear Editor,   In a recent letter in the media the suggestion was made that our Minister of Education should consider following the recommendation of American educationists who are advocating the replacement of STEM (Science, Technology, Engine-ering and Mathematics) with STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) ie, adding the Arts to the acronym.

Privy Council imposes death penalty on two Trinidadians

Dear Editor, The recent decision by the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council to impose the death penalty on two Trinidadian men is the talking point in legal circles in the region, including Guyana, although the Co-operative Republic abolished appeals to the London based court more than four decades ago.
