Leonora contestants shine in Karaoke competition

Two Leonora, West Coast Demerara (WCD) residents made their community proud by copping the first and third prizes in the Melody King Karaoke Singing Competition hosted by the Region Three Mash Committee.

A press release from the Regional Administration said Gautam Persaud won $100, 000 and a trophy and Krishna Seeram won $50,000 and a trophy at the competition hosted on Saturday at the Windsor Forest Primary School ground. Narine ‘Deonarine’ Persaud of Goed Fortuin, West Bank Demerara won the second prize of $75 000 and a trophy.

The release said nine persons participated in the competition which heralded the opening of the region’s mashramani celebrations. Each contestant sang three songs of their choice and was judged in five areas including melody, pronunciation, timing, deportment and originality.

Regional Chairman Julius Faerber and Regional Vice Chairman Manpersaud distributed the prizes.
