Defending Mayor’s Cup champs face Santos test

The annual Mayor’s Cup Football tournament heats up at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground tonight when Camptown tackles Pele in an intriguing match-up as the quarter-final round commences at 6pm.

Defending champions, Fruta Conquerors come up against Santos in the first match with the second game expected to begin at 8pm.

Strikers, Devon Forde and Reshon Sandiford will lead the challenge for Camptown with midfielder Troy Prescod offering support. Orland Gilgeous and Seon Muir will spearhead the team’s defence.

Camptown’s custodian, Richie Richards will have to be at his best against the attack of Pele and national strikers, Nigel ‘Powers’ Codrington and Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson tonight.

Pele’s star-studded line-up also includes national midfielder, Kanata Mannings along with Travis Grant. Dirk Archer and Shiek Kamal are the team’s central defenders offering support to custodian Shemroy Arthur.

In the first game, Conquerors’ midfielder Elroy Parks will be looking to marshal his troops closer to a title defence. Delon Williams and Vernon Mills will adequately support Parks with Neville Stanton leading the defence.

Dwayne Alli and Gideon Payne will put up the Santos’ resistance along with Jermain Fraser. The winners of tonight’s quarter-final matches will move on to the semi-final round of the 2007 tournament.
