President of Caribbean Court of Justice to address Rotary dinner

Justice Michael de la Bastide, President of the Caribbean Court of Justice, is scheduled to deliver the feature address at the Rotary Club of Georgetown’s gala dinner to be held this Saturday at Le Meridien Pegasus Hotel on the occasion of Rotary’s World Understanding and Peace month.

Special invitees to the dinner include senior officials of government, parliamentarians, members of the Diplomatic Corps, representatives of the business community and civil society, while all members of the Rotary family are encouraged to attend, a press release stated.

Rotary International has dedicated February towards World Under-standing and Peace and the Rotary Club of Georgetown marks the occasion each year by holding a gala dinner at which a distinguished person is invited to deliver an address focusing on the promotion of world peace and understanding, the release said.

Justice de la Bastide became President of the Caribbean Court of Justice in August 200 after being sworn in as a member of the UK Privy Council by Queen Elizabeth 11 in July of that year.

Previous to his appointment as head of the Caribbean Court, he served as Chief Justice of Trinidad and Tobago from 1995-2002. He holds Trinidad and Tobago’s highest national honour, the Trinity Cross.
