Dear Editor,

I wish to refer to an article published in the Sunday Stabroek on the 18th of March 2007, at page 2 under the caption “Cops probing robberies at 2J’s, Buddy’s”.

I am particularly disturbed by the contents of the article which seem to indicate that there exists a Buddy’s Hotel on Brickdam, and further that the said hotel was the subject of a robbery on Friday the 16th March 2007.

I wish to state that I am the owner/Managing Director of Sleepin International Hotel which is located at Lot 24 Brickdam, Georgetown, which incidentally is adjacent to an office owned and occupied by Buddy’s.

There is absolutely no connection or collaboration between Sleep-in Intern-ational Hotel Brickdam, Sleepin Guest House, Church Street and Buddy’s situated on Brick-dam.

May I take this opportunity to inform you that a sign bearing the words “Sleepin International Hotel” is conspicuously displayed in front of my hotel and only those who refuse to see will not observe it.

Your article of March 16th has resulted in many cancellations of bookings because persons are reluctant to stay at a hotel which may be considered as unsafe.

Understandably, that is the only logical conclusion that can be arrived at after reading the article to which I refer.

I hereby request that you take the necessary steps to convey to the reading public that there is no hotel known as Buddy’s on Brickdam. It may be useful to also indicate to the reading public that there is no connection or collaboration between Sleepin International Hotel and Buddy’s International Hotel.

Yours faithfully,

Clifton Bacchus

Managing Director

Sleepin International

Hotel and Bar

Editor”s note

The police press release on which our report was based said the robbery occurred at “Buddy’s Hotel, Brickdam”. We regret the error.
