This road has existed for decades

Dear Editor,

I wish to respond to a letter captioned “Why was this road in Mahdia positioned over a mineral deposit?” (07.09.08). While I try to understand the reason and rationale behind the author’s inquiry, I fail to see how an established main access road that leads to Salbora and Morauwa (an Amerindian Village), which was in existence since in the days of the British Guiana Consolidated (an old British mining company), used by the various agencies in the execution of their respective mandates, and gazetted as a thoroughfare decades before the Region 8 (Potaro/Siparuni) administration was established under the Laws of Guyana, can be faulted for its positioning by the Regional Administration.

The reasoning purported by E. Fredericks lacks merit and a foundation of understanding. Maybe, the goodly author will want to ask the same question if a similar situation was to be established in a Government Agency’s compound or in the heart of a township/community – say Mahdia.

Yours faithfully,

Daniel Fraser

Regional Information Officer

Office of the Regional Democratic Council

Region 8 Potaro/Siparuni
