Seven exciting horse races are billed for this Sunday at the Rising Sun Turf Club ground, West Berbice, when that body stages its first race meet for the year, co-ordinator Fazal Habibulla says. According to Habibulla, some 45 local horses are scheduled to compete against several mounts due to arrive from Trinidad which will give the event an international flavour. Habibulla has already received the Champions Trophy from proprietor of Trophy Stall Ramesh Sunich.The feature race on Sunday’s card will be the `C’ class and Lower event over 1600 meters.

The race has a $200,000 first prize while the runner-up will receive $100,000.

Two other events attracting attention are the `E’ class and lower race over 1200 metres and the three-year-old event over the same distance. Both races have a first prize of $150,000. The other four races are the `G’ class and lower with a $100,000 first prize, the `I’ class and lower, with an $80,000 first prize, the `J&K’ and lower with a $70,000 first prize and the `L’ class where the first prize is worth $60,000.

Habibulla said that with all these horses on the track a very exciting day at the races is anticipated adding that he wanted to thank the sponsors for the opportunity to make the event a successful one.

The next Rising Sun Turf Club meet is billed for February 18th. (RP)

    Guyana once had a thriving horse racing industry where the best of Barbados,Trinidad and Tobago use to clash against each other…only Barbados and TNT has a vibrant horse racing idustry along with Jamaica in these parts right now.
