Once again, Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL) under its El Dorado brand rum, will be running off its ‘Day at the Races’ on December 26 in collaboration with the Kennard Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) at the club’s venue Bush Lot, Corentyne, Berbice.

At a simple ceremony held at the office of retired chancellor and honorary president of the Kennard Memorial Turf Club, Cecil Kennard, Dexter Seaton, El Dorado brand marketing manager, handed over the trophies that will be presented to the various winners and a cheque to the value of G$1.2m.

In a brief comment, Seaton said what a pleasure it was to be associated with the Kennard Memorial Turf Club again.

“For the past three years, we at DDL/ El Dorado rum have been associated with the Kennard Memorial Turf Club and this year is no different as we always have no hesitation whenever that call comes from Mr. Kennard in connection with their horse meet. We are pumping over G$1.4m in sponsorship into this Boxing Day meet, our way of giving back to the sporting community in Guyana.”

Kennard thanked the sponsors for coming forward and said that he would love to see the working relationship between the two parties continue.

“For the past 35 years or so, we have enjoyed a good relationship with DDL and through its El Dorado brand; we have a three-year old relationship. I must say heartfelt thanks you to then for coming forward and sponsoring this meet that they have dubbed ‘Day at the Races” and look forward to working with them in the future.”

Horses that will be competing are: Delmur Gold, Sasha, The Gap, Showing Up, Perfect Drift, Little Panie, Sir Balajie and Spin and Squeeze.
