Suspect held in New Year’s Day murder

Police have arrested a male suspect in the New Year’s Day murder of 24-year-old Floyd James of St Cuthbert’s Mission, Mahaica Creek.

In a statement yesterday, police said investigations have so far revealed that James and relatives were consuming alcoholic beverages when an argument developed, during which he was allegedly struck to his head with a piece of wood.

The man’s body was recovered from the Mahaica creek and the suspect was subsequently arrested and is still in police custody assisting in investigations.

The police also have the piece of wood believed to have been used to inflict the blow.
