Several hours after he was arrested over a larceny allegation, a 24-year-old man was yesterday afternoon found hanging in the Enmore Police Outpost lock-ups and was later pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

The police said yesterday that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of Ramesh Shaw of Logwood, Enmore ECD, who was found hanging by his jersey in the lock-ups.

A release said Shaw was arrested around 11.40 am yesterday by the police at Enmore, following investigations into a report of larceny of a motor vehicle battery made at the outpost around 11.05 am by Harripaul Chan of Logwood.

Shaw was subsequently placed in the lock-ups and was the only person in the lock-ups at the time, the police said.

When the lone prisoner was next checked around 1.45 pm, he was found with his jersey, which had been torn into strips to make a rope, tied around his neck and attached to the metal ventilation grillwork in the lock-ups.

Shaw was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead and his body was subsequently taken to the Lyken Funeral Parlour, the release said.
