Lusignan funerals today

The bodies of the other ten persons who were slaughtered in the Lusignan attack on Saturday morning will be available for public viewing at the Lusignan tarmac from 1.30 pm today, following which some will be buried and the others cremated.

The Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC) is assisting in coordinating funeral arrangements for the families upon their request.

In a statement yesterday, the ERC said the families of the victims have called for decency and order during the proceedings.

The body of Shalem Baksh will be buried according to Muslim rights and will first be available for viewing at the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) at 8.30 am followed by a religious service at his residence at 10.30 am. Following a public viewing at the tarmac from 1.30 pm, he will be buried at the Good Hope Cemetery at 3.30 pm.

The bodies of Clarence, Vanessa and Ron Thomas will be at their Lusignan residence for a brief viewing until 11.30 am, after which there will be a funeral service at the Lusignan Assemblies of God Church at noon. Their bodies will then be available for viewing at the tarmac from 1.30 pm followed by burial at the Good Hope Cemetery.

The bodies of Mohandai Gourdat, Seegobind Harrilall and Seegopaul Harilall could also be viewed at their Lusignan residence and then a funeral service would be held for them at Gourdat mother’s residence. Following the public viewing, they will be cremated at the Good Hope crematorium.

The remains of Dhanrajie Ramsingh, Seecharran Rooplall and Raywattie Ramsingh will also be at the family home from 10.45 am for a religious service, and would also be part of the tarmac viewing at 2 pm. Following this they will be cremated as well.

Religious leaders will preside over the proceedings at the Lusignan Tarmac, the ERC said.
