The Justice Reform Programme encompasses the Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) in an effort to boost its efficiency and strengthen state prosecutions.

Through a consultancy, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) funded programme will seek to restructure the DPP’s Chambers and with the aim of enhancing its functional and operational capacity.

According to an advertisement published in the Stabroek News, eligible consultancy firms from any member country of the IDB, which have experience in prosecuting are being sought.

Former justice of appeal Claudette Singh is coordinating the Justice Reform Programme which was initiated to strengthen a number of areas in the system, such as the work of the Judicial Service Commission. The backlog of cases in the system is another key area to be addressed.

The financial management of the courts is also included in the reform. Additionally, the Court Registry is expected to be computerized and an electronic file-tracing system introduced as part of the reform process.
