Probe launched into Benschop murder threat

Commissioner of Police (ag) Henry Greene has launched an investigation into claims made by Mark Benschop that a price is on his head after the two met yesterday.

The two discussed Benschop’s safety and Greene expressed concerns over the allegations of contract killings, a police press release said last night.

Prior to yesterday’s meeting Benschop had not been in contact with the police and was contacted by the authorities following a report that appeared in Friday’s Stabroek News.

Benschop had disclosed that a man visited his office and informed him that money had been paid to kill him.

According to the police release, efforts are being made to locate trade unionist Lincoln Lewis who had stated publicly last week that he was fearful for his life after unknown men attempted to enter his home forcing him to flee the premises.

The police said that Lewis has appeared to have gone into hiding since the incident.
