Works to be completed include 1,900 feet of asphalted road from the Eastern Highway (Railway Embankment) south along Church of God Road, while Middle Walk and Sideline Dam would also be upgraded, the Government Information Agency (GINA) reported.

Meanwhile, Minister of Transport and Hydraulics Robeson Benn inspected the road project on Wednesday.

The minister said, according to GINA,  that in addition to the upgrading of the roads, the road shoulders would be reinforced to protect the structural integrity of the road surface. This would be done as a second phase project.

Benn also visited Vryheid’s Lust, also on the East Coast, where the ministry has completed paving the access route for mini-buses and upgrading the other streets in that village.

The minister  said that his ministry will be working in collaboration with the Local Government Ministry to upgrade several roads in a number of villages. He said that measures would be taken to ensure that the upgraded roads are protected from over-laden vehicles that could damage them.
