Those were the words from an ecstatic Alpha United football team coach Wayne Dover as his team carted off with the Alpha United Carifesta Football one million dollars first prize at the Providence Nat-ional Stadium Sunday night with a 2-0 win over Sunburst Camptown.

Alpha “The Hammer” United hammered Sunburst Camp-town 2 – 0 in a tough encounter and took home the Alpha United Carifesta Football Trophy.

“I think it was a good all-round performance by the players and they also worked as a team and for each other to make the win possible,” Dover added.

Dover said Alpha was successful in the tournament because they maintained possession of the ball which, he added was demonstrated in the final.

During the 90 minutes of game play the Alpha United team had a lot more attempts at goal than that of the opposition. For the most part the game was played in Camptown’s half of the field and more often than not, the Camptown custodian was troubled whenever an Alpha United player entered the 18-yard box.

It was also evident in the latter half of the final 45 minutes that the Camptown team was beginning to become frustrated as they could not find the equalizer.

Their body language displayed that frustration and their competitive attitude disappeared.

The result was that Alpha United applied more pressure and were able to deliver the final blow.

Coach of the runner-up team Troy Mendonca said that his team strayed far from the game-plan adding that the pressure factor was the cause.
“I know they (Camptown) can play better football than they did tonight but Alpha United played the better football on this occasion so they were able to come out on top and in football the team that makes the least mistakes win,” a disappointed Mendonca said.
