In another entertaining evening at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, Old Fort High Flyers pulled ahead of all challengers the top of the table in the senior division as the Noble House Goals Galore Indoor Hockey Competition continued Friday night.
Despite a valiant attempt by the young Shakatan players to keep the score at an even 8-8 at the half, Old Fort eventually steam-rolled their opponents en route to a 12 – 9 victory.
Aderemi Simon and John Abrams were the top marksmen for Old Fort with a double each while Adrian Brandt, Jason Dos Santos and Dwight Sullivan added one each.
Shaka Gill scored a hat-trick for Shakatan but despite strong play by Zack Gonsalves and Raphael DeGroot they were unable to add to the score.
In the other ‘A’ division match of the evening, GCC ‘A’ managed to hold off a late surge by the Everest Hikers ‘A’ to pull off the 11-8 victory.
Beginning with a 2-goal advantage, GCC extended their lead to secure a five goal margin with only 3 minutes left in the game.
A critical yellow card which sent Stuart Gonsalves to the detention chair however would change the match as Everest substituted goalkeeper Azad DeAbreu and piled on the pressure with two additional field players on the court.
The tactic almost worked to perfection as Everest managed to chalk up 3 quick goals before succumbing to one more and the 11 -8 victory by GCC.
Robert France led all scorers with a hat-trick for Everest while teammate Shane Samuels added a double and Jerry Bell a single. GCC’s Devin Hooper and Orlando Semple registered doubles while Alan and Philip Fernandes and Patrick Edghill scored one each.
Earlier in the evening the ‘B’ division saw the Western Dragons surge to the top of the table with an easy 7 – 3 victory over the Carib Degenerates. Both Adrian Sampson and Deon Brandford managed hat-tricks for the victors while Deon Carew added a single. Timothy Jonas and Gregory Sills were the lone scorers for the Degenerates. The Hikers ladies seeming to improve with every match were just as impressive on the evening as they routed Old Fort ‘B’ by 9 goals to 6.
Nationals Cora Towler and Amanda Garnet were in top form as they blasted home a hat-trick and a double respectively for the Hikers. Dwayne Allen, Daren Williams and Teon Joaquin each scored one in Old Fort’s losing effort.
Earlier in the evening, the GCC Spartans finally managed to upstage their senior counterparts the Tigers by holding them scoreless and pulling off the 6-4 victory by virtue of their 2 goal handicap.
Old Fort now leads the ‘A’ division with 6 points from 2 matches while Everest is in second place with 3 points and a +6 goal difference. GCC is third with three points and a -2 goal difference while Shakatan has no points.
The Western Dragons tops the ‘B’ division with 7 points from 3 matches followed closely by the Everest ladies also with 7 from 4 matches. The GCC Spartans sit in third with 5 points from 3 games, Old Fort follows with 5 points from 4 games then comes the Carib Degenerates on 4, Everest ‘B’ on 1 and the GCC Tigers with zero.
