The Guyana Badminton Association through its president Gowkaran Ramdhani yesterday announced that a junior squad will be sent to neighbouring Suriname to participate in that country’s Junior International Championships.

According to Ramdhani the championships are slated for November 13-17. The tournament will see play in five categories – under 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19.

Recently Guyana sent an under-17 squad to participate in the Trinidad under-21 junior team international championship and the team finished a creditable fourth out of seven participating teams. Ramdhani had said then that the team’s placing was excellent, noting that the squad consisted of under-17 players and they played in an under-21 tournament.

The tournament was played in San Fernando from August 1-11.

The Guyana squad walked away with the boys and girls’ Most Valuable Players Awards, Youngest Boy and Girl Outstanding Players Awards and was second in the Boys’ Doubles Points Awards.

Meanwhile, Ramdhani said that the Guyana Badminton Association will be “shuttling off” its Open tournament and the Junior Tournament in October.
