Football referees AGM set for today

The Guyana Football Referees Council will hold its annual general meeting (AGM) today at the Carifesta Sports Complex, Carifesta Avenue, Thomas Lands commencing at 10am.

High on the agenda will be the election of office bearers including that of the vacant position of secretary and the treasurer’s report. Incumbent president Alfred King, though, is set to be re-elected.

And, a number of the top referees were successful when the organization held its annual Fitness Run on September 13 at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.

The run, conducted by instructors Lawrence Griffith and Colin `BL’ Aaron, saw all of the FIFA referees and assistants being successful.

They will subsequently be nominated to FIFA’s international list for 2009.

The successful referees are Otis James, Roy Mc Arthur, Stanley Lancaster, Roland Persaud, and Dianne Ferreira-James.
The assistants are Dion Inniss, Venton Mars, Abdulla Hamid, Rollin Tappin, Selwyn Blair, Nykasie Liverpool and Cynette Jeffrey.

Also successfully completing the run were a number of referees from Georgetown, Berbice, Linden, West Demerara, East Coast and East Bank.

And the following persons were successful at the Referees Beginners course held from September 5-7 at the Carifesta Sports Complex: Kerron Alexi Moore, who topped the class, Paul Andrew Mc Almont, Paul Anthony Babb, Floyd Raphael Lewis, Dwayne Morgan, Troy Gravesande, Kayode Lambert, Rushell Hackett, Brunetta Henry and Shavon Williams.

Meanwhile, a number of FIFA referees have been appointed to officiate in a series of overseas engagements.

Nykasie Liverpool will officiate in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Chile during the period November 19 to December 7 while Otis James and Rollin Tappin will be officiating in the CFU men’s U-20 tournament in the Netherlands Antilles from October 9-18.

And, Roy Mc Arthur, Selwyn Blair and Venton Mars will officiate in the Digicel Cup Group “C” competition in Guadeloupe from October 9-16 while Dion Inniss will officiate in the World Cup Qualifier between Canada and Mexico in Canada on October 15.
