French geologist dies in pit cave-in

A French geologist who was working in the interior died after a pit reportedly caved in, trapping him underneath the debris.

Police said that Guy Gois, a French national, attached to the River Gold Guyana Inc was taking soil samples from an excavated pit at White Water Backdam, Konawaruk when the incident occurred.

The pit reportedly caved in during heavy rainfall and Gois was trapped underneath.
Gois was pulled from the debris and transported to the Mahdia Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body was brought out to the city and was taken to the Lyken Funeral Parlour.

The police said in a press release yesterday that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
