Nine days after he went missing, following an Essequibo River boat accident in which his father and another man died, there is still no sign of ten-year-old Ricky Ramnarine despite extensive searches by his relatives.
“I can’t say if they got he anywhere hiding because we ain’t find him or nothing for him”, said his mother Salimoon Rahaman. She told Stabroek News that with no trace of him after nine days, she is hoping that he is still alive. According to her, persons have been saying that Ricky was hurt in the accident and the persons involved have felt “sorry” and are keeping him until he can get better. She said that she had heard nothing further from the police on the matter.
Commander of ‘D’ Divison, Paulette Morrison told Stabroek News that police are still conducting their investigations and are following some leads. The boat involved in the other accident has not yet been found.
The bodies of Jainarine Dinanauth, 45, of Zeelugt, East Bank Essequibo and Henry Gibson, 45, of Hog Island were found in the shattered wooden boat, which was drifting just off the eastern side of Hog Island at about 9:30 am on August 11.
They had not been seen since leaving for Hog Island on the evening of August 10. Police had said that their investigations had revealed that the trio left the Parika Stelling at about 6:30 pm on August 10 for Hog Island in a wooden boat. After he had not made contact with her, Dinanauth’s reputed wife began making enquiries and subsequently formed a search party with the assistance of public-spirited persons, the police stated. They eventually found the bodies of Dinanauth and Gibson, which bore injuries, in the badly damaged boat. A post-mortem examination performed on the body of Dinanauth revealed that he died by drowning.
