Dear Editor,

Two Sundays ago I was at the on Homestretch Avenue awaiting the usual horse-cart racing that is held there weekly. At about 8.30 am a jeep pulled up and a young gentleman came out.

He introduced himself as Steve Ninvalle, the Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport and spoke to the crowd there about the dangers of carrying out such activites on busy streets. He urged those involved to form themselves into an association that would be able to create awareness of a sport which is currently not legally run and have it better administered. Mr Ninvalle said that he was willing to meet with interested persons to assist in this and asked for a meeting at his office.

As one who has been attending horse-cart races for years, I myself know of the dangers of such activities, and was hoping for the day when this sport could be called in the same breath as horse-racing. The first step has been taken. I hope that we can now move forward at a rate just as fast as the races that I have been witnessing.

Yours faithfully,
Mark Arthur
