PR contrast

Last weekend I received an envelope from GPL that puzzled me before opening it as I have always paid my bills. Lo and behold to my surprise it was not an Xmas greeting but a demand for another payment in December. How insensitive could such a company be to implement a change in their payments in the month of December without warning (my apologies if this was done).

Guyanese would not have included this expense in their budget and would find it very difficult to meet this obligation. The Board of Directors have been most inconsiderate and could have instead done the following: (a) Give us at least one month’s notice of their intention; (b) phase the payment, say in three months for householders and two months for companies.

Ironically an envelope from GT&T was received at the same time, but it contained Xmas greetings and thanked its customers for their patronage and support over the last year. It also explained its plans for improvement by launching a new multi-million dollar submarine cable to provide full and easy access to the international superhighway. What a contrast in public relations from a non-government company expressing its gratitude to its customers and sharing its plans for 2010, compared to GPL’s ‘Gimme yuh money’ and no end to the blackouts.
