A resilient 105 from Nikolai Parris placed the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) teams in the driver’s seat at the end of the third day against Guyana at the 3W’s Oval, Cave Hill, Barbados yesterday.
Set 319 runs for victory after the CCC team declared their second innings score on 300-5, Guyana were 30-1 at close of play with Leon Johnson not out on 21 and Krishna Arjune not out on nine.
Shemroy Barrington is the batsman out. The was caught at mid-off by Noel off the bowling of Kishmar Catlin as he topedged an attempted pull shot.
Earlier, Guyana replying to CCC’s 265 were bowled out for 247with Darwin Christian equalling his highest score at this level of 52.
Guyana needs a further 289 more runs to secure a come-from-behind win.
The CCC team with a lead of 18, started their second with skipper Simon Jackson (47) and Rommel Currency (43) adding 95 for the first wicket.
Jackson, who faced 87 balls and struck five fours, was caught by Shemroy Barrington at cover off Esaun Crandon, first ball after lunch.
Guyana gained another wicket when Currency, who was given a life by Narsingh Deonarine at cover off Devendra Bishoo, was snapped up by Barrington at forward short leg after striking four fours from 115 deliveries in 169 minutes while Floyd Reifer was lbw to Bishoo for six at 189-3.
After tea, Parris, who was dropped by Barrington at forward short leg off Deonarine when on 79, survived a run out opportunity two balls later as the bowler failed to gather a return from Royston Crandon.
He duly got to his maiden first class century when he struck Permaul through extra cover for four. He faced 190 balls and struck nine fours and one six in reaching the landmark.
He was eventually lbw to Permaul five runs later.
All told, he batted for 210 minutes, faced 200 deliveries and struck nine fours and one six.
At the declaration, Chadwich Walton and Catlin were unbeaten on 51 and 8 respectively.
Permaul 2-25 and Bishoo 2-115 were the principal wicket takers while Esaun Crandon, who effected the break through after lunch, ended with 1-54.
Guyana, who looked ordinary in the field for the second time, resumed on 237-8 with Permaul on 11 and Christian 47 and after adding three to that total, lost Permaul out lbw to Mc Clean, who was extracting pace and bounce off a hard wicket.
Christian got to his 50, his second at this level from the 66th ball he faced.
He counted five fours and one six whilst batting for 124 minutes before he got a faint edge through to Walton, giving Mc Clean his first five wicket haul at this level and Walton his fourth dismissal.
Brendon Bess was unbeaten on two.
Mc Clean ended with 5-49, Ryan Austin 2-50 and Catlin 2-65.
