The 16th Annual Ricks and Sari Agro Industries race meet saw a classic feature race as Alonzo Greaves rode remarkably to hold off Geron Williams.
The most disappointing moment of the 35-laps feature race for schoolboys and novices was the malfunctioning of the bicycle of race leader and firm favourite Warren McKay. McKay who established an early lead had taken five of the eight prime points on offer but his bicycle gave up on him in the 23rd lap. McKay who rode a brave race managed to finish third overall.
The eight prime points were shared by McKay five, and Williams, Greaves and Enzo Matthew one a piece. Other racers who placed in the top six included Junior Niles fourth, Robin Persaud fifth and Matthew sixth. Greaves finished the 35-lap event in 1:25:24.
In the day’s opener Jason Pollydore held off Tariq Baksh to win the 12-14 boys event. In the Veterans Under-50 Junior Niles rode away with the race from Shameer Baksh and Esau Oselmo finished third.
Meanwhile, in the Veterans Over-50 event Clement Douglas and Anthony Farriah had to settle for second and third respectively as Lloyd Williams rode away with the bacon.
In the juvenile event Michael Nelson forced young Tariq Baksh to settle for his second second place finish in two starts while in the upright category a ding dong tussle ensued between Jamal Bentley, Sherwin Alves and Richard Charles. When the dust settled Charles was the first to cross the line followed by Bentley and Alves respectively.
In the boys 6-9 and 9-12 age group race Raymond Perez proved that he is a wheel in front of the rest when he won both races from Dinesh Ragubeer with Rayd Baksh placing third in the 6-9 age group.
In the 12-14 age group Jamal Cromwell got the better of Orlando King and Akeem Lakon respectively.
In the lone female race Crystal Blackman was the victor over Ashley Anthony.
At the end of the 11-race meeting prizes and hampers were presented to the racers, compliments of the sponsors Ricks and Sari Agro Industries, by Regan Rodrigues jr. son of the late Guyana Cycling Federation president and sponsor Regan Rodrigues.
