Jamaicans stay at top in CFU

Jamaica were steady at 70th on the FIFA/Coca Cola World Rankings list for April and remained ahead — in the regional CFU table — of Trinidad and Tobago, who also retained their March position of 75th on the world list.

Cuba, who had spent five months of 2008 as the CFU’s No.1 team, are third in the region and 98th in the world.

The Grenadians, runners-up to Jamaica in the Digicel Caribbean Championship in December, had dropped to sixth on the CFU list last month but climbed to fourth on Wednesday after rising 14 places on FIFA’s world list to 108th.

The regional Top-10 is completed by Bermuda, at 114th in the world, Antigua and Barbuda (115th), Haiti (119th), Barbados (123rd), and Guyana (127th) with Suriname (129th) in 10th place.

The USA – up two places to 15th in the world — are CONCACAF’s No.1 for the seventh month in a row ahead of perennial top team Mexico, who are 25th in FIFA, followed by Honduras (39th), Costa Rica (40th), and Panama (60th).

The Jamaicans are sixth in the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football, followed by T&T and Canada (89th).

There is no change among the top three in the world with 2008 FIFA “Team of the Year” Spain continuing as the world’s No.1 side ahead of Germany and the Netherlands.

Brazil have displaced Italy at No.4.
