GABA set to fill vacant posts

The Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) is moving to fill the existing vacancies within the organization and has scheduled a special general meeting next week.

Acting president of the association Eustace Cuffy yesterday told Stabroek Sport that he will convene a meeting on December 8 to fill the posts of three vice-presidents, a secretary, a treasurer and an assistant/secretary treasurer.

Cuffy said the meeting will be held at Olympic House at 5pm and the intention is to “let the membership decide.”

He said all affiliated gyms are invited and nominations for the posts are open. Cuffy also reported that he had a meeting with GOA boss k. Juman Yassin  during which they discussed the way forward for the sport.

According to Cuffy, it was agreed that the GOA/GABA would send 3-4 boxers  along with a coach to Cuba for a period of six months for specialized training.

“We expect to have a meeting on Saturday at the Forgotten Youth Foundation club in Albouystown to select the boxers,” said Cuffy.

He disclosed that all the boxing coaches are invited to this meeting.
