Struggling Anna Catherina woman gets help

Several persons have come to the aid of Latchmin Soman, the 21-year-old mother of three of Anna Catherina Sea View, West Coast Demerara whose plight was highlighted by Stabroek News after spring tides affected several households in the area two weeks ago.

Soman told this newspaper that over the past two weeks a number of persons have made donations to her in cash and in kind. She said that she and her family will be moving temporarily from the seawall area to another section of Anna Catherina to her in-laws’ home.

She said that her only concern at the moment is to find the resources to construct a home at Parfait Harmonie on the West Bank of Demerara where the family was awarded a house lot by the Housing Ministry.

Soman stated that she is also making arrangements for her children to be relocated to schools at Parfait Harmonie since she said their education remains a priority. Two of her children, 5–year-old Anil and 3-year-old Tonya attend schools on the West Coast of Demerara.

Soman, whose husband works at sea and who is now employed as a gardener, stated that she was very grateful for the assistance she has received from members of the public, noting that she will continue to strive to improve the family’s living conditions.
