Lusignan prisoner charged with murder of fellow inmate

Shamar Davis called ‘Stamma’, a 23-year-old of Lot 56 B Field, Sophia, Georgetown, and currently a prisoner at the Lusignan Prison, appeared before Magistrate Orinthia Schmidt at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court, where he was charged with the murder of fellow inmate 23-year-old Anthony Prince. Davis was not required to plead and was remanded until June 6th.Prince was allegedly fatally stabbed by Davis during a fight which occurred on March 30, at about 13:50 hours in Block 3 of the New Building at the Lusignan Prison.

 Investigations revealed that Prince and Davis, who shared the same cell, were awaiting water to shower when an argument ensued between them.

It is alleged by Davis that he saw Prince with what appeared to be an improvised weapon in his hand after which he punched Prince and while he was taking cover, he observed Prince was bleeding from a wound to his right-side neck.

Prisoner officers were alerted and Prince was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. 

The crime scene was processed and the improvised weapon retrieved. The ranks also retrieved footage from CCTV cameras.Davis was remanded to the Lusignan Prison in September 2023 for robbery under arms, while Prince was remanded to prison on three counts of armed robbery, and two counts of break and enter and larceny in 2018 and 2021.Investigations are ongoing.
