Motorcyclist dies after accident with truck at LBI

Police are investigating a fatal accident that claimed the life of a 29-year-old motorcyclist who is suspected to have been hit by a speeding motor lorry on Tuesday at about 23.30 hours on the La Bonne Intention (LBI) Public Road, East Coast Demerara.

The accident involved the now-deceased, Kareem Josh Jeffrey, of Grove Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara, who was the rider of motorcycle, CL 3120, and lorry, GAG 6017, driven by a 30-year-old male of South Ruimveldt Gardens, Georgetown.

Reports are that the lorry driver was proceeding west along the LBI Public Road at an allegedly fast rate. The driver of the lorry claimed he felt as though the lorry drove over something and saw a motorcycle skidding past his vehicle. He stopped and exited the lorry and that was when he observed a body lying on the roadway with injuries.

An ambulance was summoned, and the attending doctor pronounced the motorcyclist dead.

The body was transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it awaits a post mortem examination. A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of lorry and showed no trace of alcohol in his system. He remains in custody.
