The Guyana Agricultural and General Workers Union (GAWU)  in a message for International Women’s Day is urging all women to unite and fight for their right to be recognised for their rightful place in society.

Moreover, GAWU said that “male comrades must always remember that their presence on earth was because of a woman so give women the respect and space they deserve in society.”

The union in endorsing the International Women’s Day theme ‘Equal Rights, Equal Opporttunities: Progress for All’ noted that it aptly expressed the thoughts of Egyptian philosopher and writer Boutros Boutros-Ghali who wrote that, “the human race is a two-winged bird – one wing is female, the other is male; unless both wings are equally developed, the human race will not be able to fly.”

Meanwhile, the GAWU’s  Women Forum called upon menfolk to renew their love and respect for those women close to them – their wives, mothers, sisters, daughters and working colleagues.
