City drainage works ongoing – M&CC

The Mayor and City Council (M&CC) is assiduously carrying out drainage works in various parts of the city and will soon begin work on the Downer Canal, which is responsible for drainage in a large portion of the city.

According to a release from the council, over the last two weeks the Cummings Canal and a portion of the Princes Street Canal have been cleared while work continues to be done in the Tucville and Lacytown areas.

Further, it is expected that workers will begin working shortly on the Downer Canal, which accounts for drainage in South Ruimveldt, North Ruimveldt, Cummings Lodge and Bel Air Village. Meanwhile, workers have been assigned to various points in the city, especially the commercial area, to clear chokes.

The council said all hydro-flow pumps are in operation and issued a reminder to citizens to use the collection systems put in place and to avoid dumping waste on parapets and roadsides, which put an additional burden on solid waste management systems.
