Senior cop, other man hurt in No.71 accident

An accident involving two vehicles at No. 71 Village, Corentyne around 9:20 pm on Friday has left both drivers, including a police detective nursing serious injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

Reports are that the officer, Paul Wintz of No. 71 Village and the other driver, Darsanand Tejram of No. 69 Village were rushed to the Skeldon Hospital. They were treated and subsequently referred to the New Amsterdam Hospital (NAH) before being transferred to the GPH.

Wintz’s wife, Janet Wintz who was also in the vehicle along with their two-month-old baby was admitted a patient at the NAH. They were returning home when the accident occurred. The baby was unharmed.

Police sources told Stabroek News that Tejram was proceeding north when he drove into the path of Wintz’s car and slammed into it as he was negotiating a turn. Wintz, who was not on duty at the time is a senior officer attached to the Eve Leary Police Station.
