Blind cricketers depart for regional tournament

The national blind cricket team departed Guyana yesterday for the West Indies Blind Cricket Council Regional Tournament which bowls off today in Barbados.

Prior to their departure, the team was outfitted by Noble House Seafoods at a presentation where President of the Guyana Blind Cricket Association, Mark Harper, received a quantity of jerseys and track pants.

Harper expressed his appreciation to Piercy Corlette, Personnel Manager of the company while Corlette said his company was indeed pleased to be associated with the cricketers.

Last year the Guyana team finished in the cellar position when the tournament was held here but, according to coach Bharat Mangru the team is confident of making a good impression on this occasion.

Guyana will begin their quest for supremacy in the tournament today when they go up against Trinidad and Tobago at the Carlton cricket ground.

Jamaica are the defending champions.

Meanwhile, Harper also thanked the Government of Guyana, President Bharrat Jagdeo, the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Giftland OfficeMax, Beharry’s, Roger Harper’s Sports Store and friends of cricket whose contribution made the trip to Barbados possible.
