The weather was perfect, the scores were excellent with five players ending on net scores of 68 but in the end, William Walker clinched the winner’s prize at   King’s Jewellery World Medal Play golf tournament last Saturday at the Lusignan Golf Course, East Coast Demerara.

The result was unprecedented, with local pundits indicating that they have never witnessed so many players finishing with similar net scores at the top of the table.

The five players were Walker, Mike Mangal, Colin Ming, Muntaz Arjune and Carlos Adams but Walker won on a countback from his opponents.

Walker had a gross score of 77 from a handicap 9 and for his efforts he carted off the winner’s trophy plus an Oakley Sunglasses specially designed for golfers.

The second position went to Mangal who had a gross 76 from a handicap 6, while Ming was third with gross score of 79 from an 11 handicap. They too also won Oakley products from the sponsors who are the official distributors of Oakley goods in Guyana.

Patrick Prashad was Nearest to the Pin at hole number 8.

Ralph Persaud, Managing Director of King’s Jewellery World, said he was pleased with the turnout of players at the tournament.

Persaud, who is a first-time sponsor, said he was  considering playing golf in the near future and looks forward to working closely with the Lusignan Golf Club.

Brian Hackett, LGC treasurer, expressed gratitude to the sponsors for their contribution to the tournament.

Club Captain Prashad said that Saturday was a perfect day for golf with the players making full use of the conditions with impressive scores of two under par, which was a great improvement from the previous week where the winner was three over par.
