Best, Brathwaite named in Barbados one-day squad

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, CMC – Fiery West Indies pacer Tino Best and prolific teenaged A team opener Kraigg Brathwaite have been named in a 14-man Barbados squad for next month’s WICB Regional 50-over tournament in Jamaica.

The 29-year-old Best, who has played 14 Tests and 12 One-Day Internationals, will be expected to spearhead an attack that also included rookie Windies speedster Kemar Roach.

Best took 17 wickets in eight County Championship games for Yorkshire in the just concluded season and 10 scalps in the 40-over competition.
Brathwaite, meanwhile, has toured with the West Indies A side in recent months and will be making his first appearance for Barbados in regional limited overs cricket.

The 17-year-old right-hander, who has already played seven first class matches, dominated the ICC Youth World Cup in New Zealand this year, finishing as the second highest run-scorer.

Best and Brathwaite are two of four changes to the squad that campaigned in the Caribbean Twenty20 in July, with left-handed opener Jason Haynes and Marlon Graham called up.

Off-spinner Ashley Nurse, a leader performer in the Caribbean Twenty20, has been overlooked along with Alcindo Holder, Jason Hinds and Larry Babb.
The 32-year-old Graham, an off-spinning all-rounder who is a former youth captain, is the only newcomer in the squad which will be led by Ryan Hinds.
SQUAD – Ryan Hinds (captain), Sulieman Benn, Tino Best, Kraigg Brathwaite, Jonathan Carter, Kirk Edwards, Marlon Graham, Jason Haynes, Carlo Morris, Dale Richards, Kemar Roach, Javon Searles, Dwayne Smith, Kevin Stoute.
