GRFU names squad to prepare for Sevens World Series

The Guyana Rugby Football Union (GRFU) has named an 18-man senior national Sevens rugby squad to begin training for the upcoming International Rugby Board (IRB) Sevens World Series in Las Vegas, United States on February 12 and 13 next year.
The squad was announced by Chairman of Selectors, Mike Mc Cormack.

Under the direction of National Sevens Coach, Theodore Henry, the squad will have to meet at the National Park Rugby Ground at 5 pm on Monday to begin their training, which had been delayed by the inclement weather.

In a recent interview with Stabroek Sport, President of the GRFU Kit Nascimento disclosed that the GRFU is eager to begin preparing the national rugby Sevens team for the upcoming IRB Sevens World Series, for which Guyana qualified to represent the Caribbean after winning the North American and Caribbean Rugby Association (NACRA) Championships, held here earlier this year.

This will be the second year the national rugby Sevens team, who are the five-time NACRA champions, will be participating in the IRB Sevens World Series.

Their first visit to the Sevens World Series was in February last when they faced stern competition from world class teams, such as Australia, New Zealand and France. Though returning winless, the national Sevens team did manage to draw their game against France.

The squad to begin preparations for next year’s IRB Sevens World Series is as follows: Claudius Butts, Walter George, Ryan Gonzales, Leon Greaves, Cyon Kitt, Joseph Rahaman, Elwin Chase, Avery Corbin, Peabo Hamilton, Dane Parks, Jason Tyrell, Chris Singh, Troy Bascom, Claude Alexander, Vallon Adams, Oneil Charles, Jermaine Prowell and Kevin Jordan.
